What a duct replacement job involves
We start by mapping the existing system: supply trunk, returns, register locations and every run that has been added or altered over the decades. Then we remove the failed sections and build new. Older homes across the region often have oversized gravity trunks feeding a modern furnace, so sizing is part of the work, not an afterthought. We seal joints, support runs properly, and set returns where the house needs them. Most homes are done in a day or two, and we protect floors and stairs on the way in and out.
What we check and what we install
Before quoting, we check static pressure, airflow at the registers, return capacity, insulation condition on runs through unconditioned space, and whether the blower is fighting the duct. We look for asbestos-era wrap and disconnected boots dumping air into a crawl space. New work is typically sealed sheet metal trunk and takeoffs with insulated flex or hard pipe on the branches, sized for the equipment you have. We add or enlarge returns where rooms are starved, and we balance the system once it runs.
How we decide replacement is the right call
Repair comes first. If a few joints are open or one run is crushed, we fix that and move on. Replacement makes sense when the metal is rusted through, the layout cannot deliver the air your furnace or AC produces, insulation has fallen off long runs, or a previous retrofit left undersized returns choking the blower. Long heating seasons and humid summers punish bad ductwork, so we show you the pressure readings and the photos and let you decide with real numbers in front of you.

Can you replace ductwork without tearing up walls and ceilings?
Usually yes. Most of the work happens in the basement, crawl space or attic where the trunk lives. Some register or boot changes need small openings, and we tell you exactly where before we start.
Will new ducts fix one room that is always cold?
Often, if the cause is a crushed run, a disconnected boot or no return in that room. We measure airflow at the register first so we are solving the actual problem, not guessing.
Should duct replacement happen at the same time as a new furnace or AC?
It is the cleanest time to do it. New equipment moves air differently than a 1950s system expected, and matching the ducts to it means the new unit performs the way it was designed to.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. Details on the phone shorten the visit considerably.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, the outdoor unit and the heat exchanger side before naming a cause. You get the finding in plain words, not a parts list you cannot read.
- Step 3
You approve the repair
We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and what happens if you wait. Nothing gets replaced without your say so. Most common repairs are handled the same visit.

Why homeowners call us
- Old housing stock is normal hereBasements with converted octopus trunk lines, ducts retrofitted around joists, returns that were never sized right. We work in these houses constantly and we size the repair to the house you actually have.
- Long heating seasonsFurnaces in this region run hard from October into April, and lake effect stretches it further. We know what wear looks like at that mileage, from cracked igniters to blower motors that have been dragging for two winters.
- Cooling and heating bothOne crew for air conditioning repair and heating repair. The same ductwork moves air in July and January, so a technician who understands both sides catches problems a single-season contractor tends to walk past.
- Plain talk about repair versus replaceSometimes a part fixes it for years. Sometimes you are putting money into a system that is done. We tell you which one we think you are looking at and why, then leave the decision with you.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
- Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
